Ellipse® IPL
Ellipse IPL (Intense pulsed light) is a non-ablative treatment that uses light energy to target and remove certain colors in the skin. Age spots, sunspots, and freckles contain a substance called melanin, which causes the skin to appear darker in some areas.
Ellipse IPL unique narrowband technology is defined by dual filters and sub-millisecond pulses for safe skin rejuvenation and exceptional vascular treatments. The light energy is absorbed naturally, encouraging the dispersal of unwanted melanin and promoting the skin’s rejuvenation process.
IPL Therapy can be used anywhere on the body, and can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time. Most common conditions are:
- Sun spots
- Freckles
- Rosacea
- Vascular lesions
- Diffuse redness
- Acne & PIH
IPL therapy can be very effective treatment for the redness and flushing component of rosacea. Ellipse IPL works as a vascular treatment based on selective photothermolysis, where a specific target is selectively heated up and destroyed without damaging the surrounding tissues. The Ellipse short-pulsed Selective Waveband Technology (SWT) is proven to be superior in the treatment of rosacea when compared to other IPL devices.
Who is a candidate for IPL?
Results will vary based on your skin type and the condition being treated, but IPL therapy has the BEST results for people who have lighter skin tones. Those with darker skin tones will likely need to use an alternative treatment.
Additionally, the amount of pigment (melanin) in the treated area will largely determine how much energy is absorbed. Simply put: the darker the spot, the better the (faster) results!
What to expect
The treatment area can not be tanned or exposed to UV light before your procedure. Sun exposure encourages the production of melanin, which can interfere with your results. You must also discontinue use of self-tanning products, and any medications that make you sensitive to light.
One of the best features of the Ellipse® IPL is that it does NOT require numbing! This is due to the unique narrowband technology. A cooling/conductive gel is applied to the skin to reduce discomfort. Each IPL treatment takes around 30 minutes, depending on size of the treatment area.
Immediately following treatment the skin might feel slightly sensitized, like a sunburn. This may last 30 minutes to a couple of hours. The spots treated will begin to darken, and then slough off the course of the week. You can expect to see your results 7-10 days following treatment.
IPL therapy is generally regarded as a ’no downtime treatment’, and you can result normal activities right away.
The number of treatments needed will depend on the baseline condition of the skin and the desired outcome. A typical course of IPL therapy includes 3 treatments, with 4-6 weeks between each visit. After you’ve reached your desired results, you may choose to do annual maintenance treatments.
Cost (and package deals) will be discussed during your detailed consultation.
