PRFM – Next Generation of PRP!

How does it work?

In human blood, platelets play a critical role by allowing the blood to clot, closing the wound and initiating skin repair. Blood platelets contain fundamental protein growth factors, and Platelet-rich plasma puts that skin rejuvenation power to work. It is a process where a small sample of a person’s blood is taken and then the platelets and plasma are separated out into a dense serum rich in healing and skin rejuvenation qualities. Red and white blood cells are divided out from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid that makes blood liquid).

What Is Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM)?

PRFM is the next generation of PRP. PRFM takes the power of platelets and adds a scaffolding to preserve and protect the platelets. As with traditional PRP, the PRFM treatment starts with a blood draw. Your provider collects a couple of vials of blood from your arm and spins them down in a centrifuge, to isolate the plasma (aka “liquid gold”), which is rich in growth factors. When mixed with just the right amount of calcium chloride, PRP is converted to a fibrin matrix. This fibrin matrix creates a three-dimensional scaffold to maintain the platelets at the site of application, allowing for sustained growth factor release. Studies have shown that platelet growth factors are released for up to seven days, supporting collagen production and increased blood supply, which results in overall skin improvements.

Why inject PRFM?

PRFM is a 100% natural approach to improving the condition of your skin. It uses your own platelets, unique tissue growth factors, and healing properties to revitalize and rejuvenate the skin. It acts as a matrix for your own collagen to grow on, stimulating the regeneration of new tissue, and naturally smoothing and tightening the skin.

While almost anyone can benefit from the subtle rejuvenating properties of PRFM injections, perhaps the most noticeable area to treat with PRFM is the under eye region. PRFM helps to naturally soften under eye hollows and restore volume.

What to expect:

Before:
It is best to drink lots of water the day prior to treatment so you are well hydrated. Avoid alcohol for two days and aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen for seven days prior to treatment as these medications can effect your platelets. Remember: your results depend on the quality of your blood!

During:
The process starts by taking a small blood sample – just like a typical lab test. That blood is then placed in a centrifuge that spins and separates the different components of the blood. If you’re receiving PRFM injections in conjunction with another treatment (Microneedling, Frac Pro, or CO2RE), then the blood draw will take place after a topical anesthetic has been applied.

After:
Depending on the area, most people will experience some injection site swelling and bruising after PRFM injections. It is recommend to plan for some downtime when injecting PRFM around the eyes, as it’s a highly vascular area and the skin is thin. When being used topically (in addition to another treatment) there is no downtime. Because PRFM uses your own blood, reactions are non-existent, making PRFM procedures very safe and eliminating concern with complications.

PRP/PRFM as an add-on
PRP/PRFM is a great add-on to Rejuvapen NXT® microneedling, Profound® RF microneedling, Frax Pro®, and CO2RE®

All of these treatments create micro-injuries in the skin. So when added to these treatments, it acts like a booster, speeding up healing time and improving results. The combination of the micro-wounds and the PRFM creates a rich healing environment where the skin actively rebuilds itself.

Hair Restoration

PRFM can be injected into the scalp for hair restoration to help kickstart resting hair follicles and reverse thinning hair. These hair follicles are still healthy and capable of growing hair, but they are spending more time in dormant phase. That said, it works best for EARLY hair loss. Hair growth happens in cycles and takes time, so results will not be immediately visible. You should begin to see results over the course of three to four months. Treatments should be done over the course of one year, and it is recommended that you have at least six treatments for optimal results.
